The Okanagan Science Centre is creating a Student Leadership Team to give local students a voice in our programming and to help us add the most value for local high school students. Those students who become part of our Student Leadership Team will:
Broaden their knowledge of science and technology
Be mentored in leadership and project management
Practice key leadership and business skills such as presenting and chairing meetings
Gain volunteer experience (that goes towards meeting high school volunteer requirements)
Receive a one-year individual Okanagan Science Centre Membership*
Members may be eligible for our Marg & Bill Sim Scholarship (other requirements apply)
Memberships are good for admission to most Science Centre in Canada
The Student Leadership Team will be made up primarily of high school students, with a focus on grades 10 - 12, but we will also be looking for one or two college/university students as team mentors.
Teen Science Cafe
Teen Science Cafe is a fun way for teens to explore science and technology. Teens will participate in lively discussions and activities with scientists. The Student Leadership Team will guide science topics; recruit friends and fellow students to attend cafes; and help organize, set-up, and run each cafe.
* Student Leadership Team members will be eligible for Science Centre membership after three months of participation and regular attendance in meetings and activities.
