These small hollow geodes are composed of various forms of quartz. The inner core is commonly the crystalline variety of quartz while the outer skin is made up of microcrystalline quartz or agate. Occurring in egg form, these geodes have been sliced in half, polished on the face and coloured. Geodes are often referred to as thunder eggs in North America.
