SENSORY FRIENDLY AFTERNOONS
All Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00pm are sensory-friendly for individuals and families with neurodiverse or accessibility needs. Guests can explore our exhibits and galleries in a comfortable, welcoming and less crowded environment. Wherever possible, exhibits will have adjusted operations and lowered volume levels.
SENSORY BACKPACKS & NOISE CANCELLING EARMUFFS
We support children and families that live with sensory processing disabilities. Our sensory backpacks and noise cancelling earmuffs are available for loan on a first-come, first-serve basis at the front desk. Each sensory backpack contains items for self-regulation, tactile input, and various attention focusing tools. All items within the sensory backpack must be returned at the end of your visit.
*Additional charges may be applied for sensory backpacks retuned with damaged or missing items.
ACCESS 2 PASS AND CARE AIDES
Care aides assisting guests with disabilities, or Access 2 Pass holders, receive complimentary admission with proof of proper documentation. Please visit the front desk for your complimentary admission.
GUIDE AND SERVICE DOGS
The Okanagan Science Centre welcomes certified guide and service dogs accompanying guests with disabilities. Guide and service dogs must be wearing proper identification while visiting the Okanagan Science Centre and/or their identification card must be presented at the front desk prior to entering.
mobility
The Okanagan Science Centre is located in a two story heritage building. Unfortunately, we do not have elevator access to our second floor and planetarium and apologize for the inconvenience. We are working towards a solution to remove mobility barriers, however it is quite complex given the heritage designation and age of the building.
