Heliocentrism, the fact that the earth and other planets revolve around the sun, was a monumental shift in our understanding of reality. With his own, revamped model of the telescope, Galileo observed moons around Jupiter for the first time, as well as documented the most detailed images of the surface of our moon.
One theory he tested, was the effects of gravity on falling bodies. He dropped weights from the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and found that gravity pulls on heavy and light weighted objects at the same velocity, contrary to common belief.
